SEO risk is mostly a URL problem
Search engines already know your Astro URLs. Change them without redirects and equity evaporates. Map every existing path to its WordPress equivalent before you switch anything.
Preserve the on-page signals
Because the capture reproduces the rendered page, headings, copy and internal links survive as-is. Verify the head tags explicitly.
- Unique title under 60 characters per page
- Meta description under 160 characters
- One H1 per page and a sane heading order
- Canonical tag pointing at the WordPress URL
- Open Graph and Twitter card tags
- Image alt text carried through
Structured data and sitemaps
Re-emit JSON-LD from the theme or an SEO plugin, then regenerate the sitemap and submit it in Search Console the day you switch. Watch coverage and Core Web Vitals for a fortnight afterwards.
Convert, then verify
Run the conversion on a staging domain, crawl it, and fix anything the crawl flags before pointing DNS.
- Open the page you want to convert in Chrome.
- Click the Themify extension icon in the toolbar.
- Press Generate theme and wait for the capture to finish.
- In wp-admin, go to Appearance → Themes → Add New → Upload Theme.
- Upload the .zip, activate it, and the page is live on WordPress.
Frequently asked questions
- Will moving from Astro to WordPress hurt SEO?
- Not if URLs are mapped, 301 redirects are in place and metadata is carried across. Content parity is preserved by the conversion itself.
- How long until rankings stabilise?
- Typically two to six weeks, depending on crawl frequency and how many URLs changed.
- Do I still need an SEO plugin?
- Yes — a plugin makes ongoing metadata, sitemap and schema management much easier inside WordPress.
